Hi I'm considering moving away from NIPSA. I'm based in the public/education sector. Any recommendation or any advice on one to steer well clear off.

Was thinking of either Unison or ATL.

  • Not being in (or ever been in) a Union myself I've always wondered what the difference was between them all anyway??? From speaking to freiends who are in Unions, they all seem pretty useless.. Just their for their own benefit most of the time... flex their muscles now and again to make themselves look good to their members, rest of the time..... jobs for the boys!!

There is always the option of not joining another union. Can you get what they provide for their members by other means?

For instance I know people who are in public sector unions always say they "have to be" in a union as they provide insurance. However, surely insurance can be provided by other means than just by joining a union.

I wouldn't bother they are all as useless as each other, I started off in MSF 20 odd years ago, they were very good, they then merged with others and became Amicus, they were very bad :( Amicus have since become Unite who are bloody awful

A few years ago I joined NIPSA, my friend at work is an unpaid rep for them and keeps me in the loop with happenings. The NIPSA paid reps are the equivalent of a chocolate teapot.

Being in PS/Education yourself I would think most of your colleagues would also be NIPSA, if you have an unresolved issue with them just email or phone Brian Campfield, that always tends to get a reaction :rotfl:

Basically I think all unions are worthless, toothless idiots who get steamrollered in any negotiations :(
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

PCS the sister union of NIPSA, now have offices over near Harkin House. Have a look at their website, because I was thinking of changing.
  • Any union is only as good as its members.
If the members are lilly livered then the union will have no power.
