IDEA: Donate £1.00.....is it possible

I was sat here reading a post from someone that was in a very desperate state of mind and I had a thought hit me, could we not donate £1.00 each each month into a kitty that would be used in a draw or several draws every month in contribution to helping someone become debt free.
Hopefully this will not appear a daft idea (My wife would tell you some of my dumb idea's), but imagine if a lump sum of your debt was paid off in a month if you were lucky enough to be drawn.
I for one would be happy to do this as I have been helped with fantastic advise from many of the members here. It maybe that it cannot be done, but how many people would donate £1.00 each month?.
Please let me know your thoughts, would it be possible to do this?.

don't know how workable it would be, but I'd be up for it ... got to be much better odds than the lottery??:TMortgage Total: £49,992/ £75,000

Its a lovely idea to give something back to all those who've helped but I don't think there's a practical way of doing it... not without a lot of organisation that would cost money. And there's always the fact that people can say anything online, would it be restricted to people in a certain amount of debt and how would that be checked? As I said, lots of administration.
Pretty soon Martin's charitable foundation is going to be set up and taking donations... much better to donate to that. I believe its going to offer financial support and education amongst other things... hopefully a much more lasting benefit than paying off a little bit of one person's debt.Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Im pretty sure this would be against the Gaming Act.
Im also pretty sure the site would need some type of licenece otherwise it couldnt be regulated.
I very much doubt that MArtin would give his approval to this and I can see many headaches in people trying to organise this.
Also even if the odds are better than the lottery you would be better of throwing that £1.00 directly at your debt rather than "gambling" to wina sweepstake.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

As I say it was just a thought.....
As you point out there are probably laws and licence's that would apply and that is stuff that I know nothing about.Lightbulb moment - 20/02/07

Good idea in principle but does seem lots of hurdles."Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little." Edmund Burke

It would be a good idea. A license is def required to run a lottery, so someone would need to take responsbility for it etc. But it's nice to think that we can do something that costs very little and could make a real difference to someone's life.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Lovely idea hun, But dont think its workable. But good advise is worth more than a pound. And being there to support someone. There are so many posts to go through that it scares me that someone will go unnoticed, Please keep on checking on folk who do not have many replies. Worth a million pounds when you are desperate. Even if its just a hug for them to know they are not alone. Means so much. And thank you the thought. xxxxxxxxxxxxNight Owl Member No 1 :rotfl: :rotfl:

:j :j I know its a bit like a lottery but you could have someone do that you could also even just let people know that you are in debt and if they want to help they could just donate to you direct. I know to some it may be seen as a bit of a scam and may even encourage scammers but to those who genuinely could need the help and for those who could want to help I think its great. You could also have people donate a sum when they want to and then have a free draw. I think its a great idea. May even encourage a bit of free advertising for some companies or good causes!!:j0
