Should 'Social Housing' be re-branded 'Taxpayer-supported Housing?
Comments

If supplied at below market value, the taxpayer who is not offered it being ripped off.
That depends on just what "market value" might be and you can't deny that the entire housing market has been hothoused out of all reasonable proportion to earnings over the last couple of decades.
Indeed, maybe the lower cost of social housing reflects a better view of true market value than the private sector?0 -

There should be NO social housing at all. Either earn money and buy or rent a home, or live in the gutter (unless serverly disabled - but then, even stephan hawking has a job and has written books)
GET A JOB and stop STEALING from the tax payer. SCCCCCUUUUMMMM
I won't ask you if you ever have received benefit as obviously in your perfect world you never have obviously have never been off sick as so many don't realise when they are off sick but receiving full wages that their place of work is receiving sick pay for them from the government and then making it up to full salary.
So even someone who has always worked and never received any benefits if they have been off work more than 3 days they still have received benefits, just paid via their employer.
Its the same with people in council houses most work full time but are on such a low wage they cannot afford to pay private rents but don't take a penny in Housing benefits.
As already posted here, but of course you won't have read it you are so full of your own righteousness that my posts and most peoples would sully your eyes to read them fullly, the scum label might contaminate you by association.
We rent from social housing built by a man who had not family so left money for them to be built and all rents to council, so my home has never cost the tax payer a penny and my rent is higher than most of the rents round here, most homes have been bought and are privately rented out and charge less rent than I pay so it would be cheaper for us to move to the privately rented homes you so loudly advocate but we like our home so why should we move. Our income is low but as yet we can manage to pay rent in full without asking for HB although we are entitled to it as we feel we should pay our way as long as we can.
Many, many in council/social housing are working and paying their own way so why should they all be called scum,. Is it you tried to get a council place and were turned down so you now feel so bitter towards all who have them
You must be such lonely person even if you are surrounded by people for all that anger and bitterness inside you will show to others no matter how much you try to hide it by coming on here to spew it out
I pity youNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Its a shame you post such drivel on a regular basis, most of your posts don't even get read any more , just scroll on down.
What do you base your asumption on that ALL those in Social Housing/Council housing don't work?.We both work full time, pay tax and receive no tax credits at all.Being full of vitriol and spite will make you a very lonely old man.
then you shouldn't be in social housing, stealing off the taxpayer. you and your partner should be in your own private house - not having luxuries whilst paying your tax payer subsidised rent!0 -

Hang on. You're describing me. My wife and I steal £200 heating allowance between us, and Mrs LM gets £100 Christmas Bonus with her state pension.
Trouble is, £200 subsidy on the energy bills is a small fraction of one month cost in this house. I have a swimming pool to keep heated. But it does go a small way to subsidise our luxury lifestyle. £300 does get a rather good case of Champagne.
It is our habit to open the first bottle to wash down our foie gras while watching Oliver Twist [always on over Christmas].0 -
We don' smoke, have not had a holiday since children paid for a trip for 25th, and that was 7 years ago, only time I have been out this city over night since then was first my mums then my dads funerals, but you could by your rules call it holidays as had to stay in hotel for a could of days, only have a car as I am disabled so was lucky to get dla a few years ago and used it to get a car, not a moblity car, we bought one as hubby uses it as I cannot drive any more due to health as we had not had one for 26 years and cannot afford to get a mortgage on hubby's part time income (min wage 20 hrs +any over time he can get) but if you could show how us how we could own our home then please show us.
My DLA if tax payers comes from hubby as he was paying more than I received till last year and also son tells me his tax money can be used to pay it as well and of course there was all the tax I paid for many years in a high paid job (before rented house day) when I paid far more than I will ever get back in dla which will go next year anyway so I refuse to be guilty.
If you ever find yourself suddenly through accident needing to claim I know you would be the person shouting loudest for your rights to benefits and that will be ok but not me or anyone else who has paid in much in taxes and more than you most likely unless you are now on top rate as I was when working.
You have all the answers if you work get out of social housing and buy or rent privately, and if you don't then you are scum and don't deserve the home you have.
I just wish you would stop assuming all private rents were dearer than social its not true.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Really? When I was unemployed (a couple of years ago, straight after graduation), I don't recall having the cash to buy a car. Or much else, for that matter.
Evidently there was some mix-up with my JSA, because I only got about fifty quid a week (I never claimed HB; I self-funded out of my own assets). An anomaly, I'm sure.0 -

Who are the real people stealing from the tax payer the people on minimum wage having to rely on the tax payer or the companies not paying them enough and happily letting the tax payer pick up the rest of their wage bill.0
