Having trouble finding an Indian supermarket

As the title says, I'm having trouble finding an Indian supermarket so I can stock up on (cheap) spices. I've tried google with no real success, and I'm not sure that the online delivery places are as cheap.

Does anyone know a good way to track one down? Or even better, know of a good one in Wiltshire?

Perhaps your search specifications were too narrow? I found a shop in Salisbury: http://www.iwiltshire.co.uk/profile/121236/Salisbury/Asian-Food-Store/

And this Chinese supermarket in Bristol: http://www.waiyeehong.com/ They seem to carry everything you need (bulk spices, rice, gram flour, pulses, noodles, etc).

(I buy my spices, rice, etc, at Wing Yip in Cricklewood, North London, but unless you're making the trip anyway, that's a bit too far for you.)

    Hi Angry Bear,

As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've moved it over to our Grocery shopping board to see if you can get more replies.

From today 30/08/12 Lidl has offers on loads of Indian stuff including naan, Cobra beer, Sharwood's and Patak stuff -have a look https://www.lidl.co.uk

I've bought stuff from Spices of India https://www.spicesofindia.co.uk which is based in Dorset. Orders over £35 get free delivery and I'd rexommend them.

I've tried Seeds of Change organic sauces which are very good. Sainsbury's has balti, korma, jalfrezi and tikka masala any 2 for £4 to 2nd October but Waitrose has them on offer at any 2 for 3.50 until 1st January.Ocado also has them any 2 for 3.50 atm but no end date on the offer listed on mysupermarket.co.uk

Lastly, Morrisons and ASDA often have special offers on ethnic food if you're close to one. Shopping the ethnic/world food in supermarkets and buying unfamiliar brands can often save money on prices for same product familiar brand in other aisles. Brands like Rubicon, Natco, TRS and KTC are becoming more widely known now.

    er hope that helps !

I was so excited when I went to the new World Food aisle in my Tescos and found huge bottles of sweet chilli sauce and soy sauce with about 5+ x the volume for a similar price to what you'd get from Amoy or Blue Dragon.

Thanks for all your replies! The big supermarkets do have indian aisles but they don't have the same selection of spcies and they're nowhere near as good value.

I tend to always make my own sauces (and pakora yum!) so like to have a batch of spices in my cupboard. Unfortunately I don't know my new local area well enough to know where to go. I'll have a look at spicesofindia, and Bristol sounds like it will be promising for oriental & asian shopping. :)

If you do head to Bristol try around Easton, specially the sweet mart on St Marks Road. http:// www sweetmart co uk/ (Can't post links) They're pretty cheap and the shop is amazing!
