If we, as consumers, make a mistake by way of missed payment through oversight or genuine reasons, we're treated unfairly and have to pay additional charges etc. But, when the banks, for example, make such a huge mistake as Natwest did recently and also Nationwide with the duplicate Visa payments did they suffer the same penalties?

NO... they apologised and that's as far as it goes. Even if we apologise we end up penalised... so no, it isn't fair...!
Marge... if the bible has taught us nothing else, which it hasn't, it's that girls should stick to girls sports like hot oil wrestling, foxy boxing and such and such...! Homer Simpson

But didn't the banks refund any late charges etc etc? What more could they do?

you have the option of refusing to lend the banks money for a whole year if you choose.
  • I was chased for a late payment on my credit card even though it wasn't late, a word of warning, if you use faster payment methods, I paid one of my credit cards on the date of issue of the statement (online statement) by faster payment (Halifax online) apparently if you do this on the date of issue it confuses the system and shows as an extra payment for the previous month after a bit of a fight I got the £12 fee refunded and there isn't any bad mark on my credit file, I did have to make a minimum payment to square things up though.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

A loan for a car???? Did you REALLY need that car? Couldn't you have just saved up for it? Or bought a banger? :p
    Divorce!
Ex had taken everything I owned in the World. Once I dug my way out of the Marital debt (the only thing I was left with :rotfl:) I treated myself.

I've traded that one in now and bought another car since then with cash.:T

I know that feeling. My ex even took the food out the cupboards when she went. And left me with nothing but a bank loan I took out to clear HER debts.

Oh how I have learned :)

To be fair, unless you booked your holiday on a Friday and flew out on the Saturday, you would have known that your payment for whatever it was was due to go out?

Ah, but the payment would have been the first installment on the payday loan taken for the holiday. If the payment had been made, then that would be less to spend whilst away.

My friend got his bank charges refunded by NatWest AND they confirmed to his bank that it was their fault not his. They couldn't have been more helpful. I'm not a particular fan, but they were very good in this instance!

    So Bugsy

Option 3 for you then - your perfect.

I dont think they are claiming to be perfect, I'm sure they learnt the hard way about missing payments. Same as me really, I only got myself into trouble once.

Be thankful this will 'only' stay on your credit report for a year and not six years like me.
