I was wondering what wages all you nursery nurse's and nursery assistant's (Level 2 or 3) are on?
Ive heared that it's not very well paid for the hours and effort that are put in? Is this true or are people just being fussy?
Look forward to your reply's.

I've heard the same (brother's girlfriend working as a nursery/childcare assistant) and I believe it's quite competitive for jobs, hence being able to pay so low I guess.
Have a look for current job ads for this kind of work and it will give you an idea of pay/hours/qualifications needed, as well as how many jobs are available etc.
That said, if it's something you really enjoy and are good at it's worth pursuing!0 -
Wages range between 8k and 14k a year around here for a 40 hour week depending on place of employment, skills, experience and qualifications. More for managers.0

My friend is a nursery nurse and has been for about 6 years. Until recently she was on £7 ph. However she just got a job in the preschool section of our local fee paying school that pays £11 ph :j
BUT in general, yes, it is quite a low paid profession. I think I remember her saying that if you could get work through your local council, rather than a private nursery, then the wages are a bit better?0 -
I have level 3 in CCLD , and am a manager in a preschool - i earn £7.35 per hour, i usually work an average of 6 hours per week unpaid.0

It amazes me that those that look after our children, our most precious 'things' are often the lowest paid. The responsibility that they have is no-where near reflected in their wages. The amount of training and red tape they have to go through can be daunting yet still the wages do not reflect this. Same as those who care for our elderly. Sorry I know off topic, its just something that has always stumped me.Save 8k in 2013: Member #100

Our LA workers get approx £18-£21K a year so not a bad salary
Our local private sector can be very low indeed.0 -
LA pay better, as do various children's charities e.g., Children's Society, Action for Children etc who run many of the Sure Start Children's Centres. Also possible progress to EYP etc which attracts additional pay0
