help with really greasy skin

HI all, can anyone recommend a face cream for really greasy skin? If I don't put any face cream on I get dry flakey skin but no matter what I've tried to use after an hour at the latest my face is shining and feels disgusting.

Haven't got loads of cash so any cheap suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Is it for night-time or daytime use? I've started putting a little bit of olive oil on my face at night and it seems to work well. It doesn't make the skin greasy, strangely! (I use it sparingly).

If you use the cheaper grade olive oil it works out to be a very inexpensive way to moisturise your skin.

I'm still on the lookout for a decent non-greasy daytime moisturiser with a sunscreen in it, though, lol

Have you seen your doctor to rule out a skin complaint like seborrhoeic dermatitis? Consider your cleansing and exfoliating routine/ products, overstripping can cause both flaking and excess sebum production as the skin desperately tries to protect itself from the chemical onslaught or from dehydration. :(

The KinNiaNag serum from here has rave reviews on a couple of skincare forums I visit sometimes for acne, regulating sebum production, anti-ageing - for me (sensitive skin prone to dehydration) it helped my skin remain hydrated and is light enough for under make up. Virtually every ingredient is an active at proven percentages, no fillers so you only need to use a little http://www.myfawnie.bigcartel.com/

If that is too expensive and you are feeling adventurous you can make your own with this kit. IIRC all you need is some accurate scales and distilled water, all the other bits of equipment are included in the kit. Makes three serums for under a tenner each, in total a good six months worth of daily use.

Lastly review your diet and lifestyle, anything that stresses the body out (including nutrient deficiencies or unhealthy foods) can affect the amount of sebum produced and also it's composition which, in turn, affects the general health of the skin.

I have really oily skin too, I have changed my foundation to Revlon Colorstay and even used Milk Of Magnesia, it has helped a bit, but no miracle cure :( It does really annoy me, my make-up looks perfect when I do it on the morning, but throughout the day my forehead feels really slick, drives me nuts. Even when I have make up free days it still gets really oily, and even when I wake up in the morning!!! Think my sebaceous glands are in overdrive :( On the plus side, oily skin means less wrinkles, I keep having to remind myself of this fact :o

  • Hi,

How often do you wash your face? Although people think washing alot may reduce greasy skin, it can do more worse than good.

A common cause for greasy skin can be due to over-washing, you will be washing away your natural oils too much and your face will start to perform more oils than ussual and more quickly, to try and reform its natural oils.

If you are over washing, try to filter your clensing down a little and let your natural oils balance out.

Also, only use your moistorizer when you feel your skin needs it, when it is too dry.

Only use a moisturiser that comes from a tube never a tub, its too rich for your skin and will cause spots on the plus side cheap products work very well for oily skin, Boots Essentials is a fav of mine and exfoliating every day keeps you looking fresh.

My skin medium to oily seem to be getting on well with Boots Vitamin E range.

    Very cheap too
  • Hi,

I have oily / sensitive spotty prone skin I can't use any body shop products, liz earle, natural, expensive creams lotions you name it I have tried it!

I am currently just using a collagen gel by SBC, it really helps as I have dry skin, but oily too just cannot make its mind up!

I use it as a moisturiser, nothing else. I am 29 by the way as collagen is for anti ageing!

  • many replies here about olive oil is your answer. Just a thought. What's the difference between olive oil for skin and the olive oil for food. Is there a difference in the ingredients?
  • HI all, just an update. After reading Raven's post I looked into milk of magnesium and ended up buying a bottle.

One week on and oh my god, my skin is amazing, it just seems to be getting better and better, today is the first day that I've not had to touch up my make up with powder my pores are non existent, and when I take my make up off with wipes at night its actually taking off my foundation, before my foundation had all ready disappeared by the time I went to take it off.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I feel like a new girl, no more worrying constantly about my face.
