Did you activate vista - computer (properties) should tell you if Mickysoft is seeing it as a genuine installation or not.
If its not genuine - then click activate and follow the instructions, should end up calling MS on a number and getting the activation done, SP1, 2 should install after that.
You can chat online to Mickysoft Support

Thanks OneADay - It is genuine and it does say Windows is activated0

It might be easier to tell us what you have tried. Have you tried the manual way from my previous link, rather than the fixit?
Download Farbar's Service Scanner from the link below and save it to your desktop.- Right click FSS.exe & choose "Run as Administrator" to run it.
- Check (tick) the following checkboxes
- Windows Update
- Other Services
- Click Scan
- When finished, notepad will open. Post the contents in your next reply.
Thanks for this info0 -
Try this:

Its technical but not impossible

I have seen a small number of laptops where Vista SP1 just wouldn't install. Got round it in the end, but can't remember how (might have involved booting in safe mode), except that I found the answer by googling for the model of laptop and "vista SP1 failure".
Without SP1, a lot of subsequent updates will fail to install.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
