What version of Windows is it - Vista?
Also, how did you reinstall from the recovery partition if it was a new hard drive and what error message are you getting?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Hi and thanks for replying - yes it is Vista. Sorry - it was actually installed from the recovery disk. Can't remember what the error message was unfortunately0

Check your date and time on the computer0

It is showing the current date and time - is that what you meant?
This was purchased in the Middle East - no idea if that has any bearing on anything?0 -
32bit Vista?
Try this:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17754
...then download SP1 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30
If successful, SP2 here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=164680 -

What's the error it's giving you?0 -
Yes 32 bit Vista Home Premium. When I try to do a manual search for updates it gives error message - Windows could not search for new updates error code 8024A000. Thanks for the links however have already tried them - no luck unfortunately0

Thanks for the link Waddler but unfortunately tried that also - stops at Powershell stage and does not install0

It might be easier to tell us what you have tried. Have you tried the manual way from my previous link, rather than the fixit?
Download Farbar's Service Scanner from the link below and save it to your desktop.
LINK- Right click FSS.exe & choose "Run as Administrator" to run it.
- Check (tick) the following checkboxes
- Windows Update
- Other Services
- Click Scan
- When finished, notepad will open. Post the contents in your next reply.
