I want to fire a pistol with live ammunition...

I'm not crazy honest!
Have just been looking at random things to add to a bucket list. Is anyone a member of a firing range?
Do I need my own gun/permit etc?
I'm in London, can anyone give me any advice as to how to go about doing this? :j

Labour introduced a blanket ban on handguns (aka pistols) in 1997. So it will not be possible for you in this country.

However, there are certain humorous loopholes. A handgun/pistol is defined by its length - so there are modifications where the pistol is made 50cm long and it's legal. Also you can shoot black powder pistols.

To own a firearm you have to have a firearms certificate (FAC), which lists the guns you are allowed. In order to get one you have to be a member of a club or a landowner with good reason for having one, and have to pass a vetting process.

You would be able to shoot a black powder pistol without an FAC at an open day at Bisley, or possibly other locations. (Black powder is the olde tip in the powder, put in a cloth plug, push a lead ball on the end format.)

It is possible to have long barreled pistols, but only the owner is allowed to shoot them.

If you go on holiday to the US, you can go to a range with just ID and payment and shoot revolvers, automatics, etc.
