Overbilled by 'dating' website - advice needed rapid!

Joined a 'dating' website which had an offer for a £1.99 preview for three days use. I signed up and paid with a credit card. I also noticed a note saying there will be a recurring bill of £120 for 6 months use if not cancelled within 3 days. On the second day of use I rang up the team to cancel and they told me I had signed up for 6 months for £120 and I had no right to any refund. They did not offer me a receipt either, so no form of any payment being taken.
Please can you advise me of steps I should take to reclaim this £120 I did not authorise (to my knowledge). The telephone team were very surly and aggressive.

can you link to the site in question?
or give us a clue. (Name)
You may have fallen foul of their 'method' of cancelling - they may have specified a cancellation in writing or something.
Instigate a chargeback through your credit card, pointing out that you cancelled within the time?
hang on - I'll get a link.
BTW there's a singles thread in here, in the arms;)

Definitely contact your credit card company.0

yes no probs I'm not proud, I think they are using the embarrassment factor to their advantage. I am on the 3rd day of membership now and they do have a clause that if you use the service (which I did for 2 days as you have to to message their support team) then their '7 day cooling off period' is revoked. But I was never issued a receipt of any kind so was unaware I had signed up for the 6 month option. Unfortunately you have to register initially as a free member to be able to see the billing options/upgrade. I'm sure I'm not the first0

the website is named 'localsla*s.com' missing letter is a 'g'. It is embarrassing yes and I'm sure I won't be the first or the last but these guys are really ripping people off.0

Oh well if that's what you're looking for I won't bother Pm'ming you my details.;)
Seriously go to the CC company. It does sound like a bit of a dodgy set-up!
Well done actually for standing up to them! (If you'll pardon the pun :rotfl:)
I'm not sure I want to investigate their terms and conditions - I have teenagers in the house. However Terms and Conditions must be reasonable and must, by law, (but I cannot, of the top of my head remember which one) be fair.
If the cancellation system they have in place is unreasonable then they cannot apply their T&Cs.
Hopefully one of the other, knowledgeable, posters will be along soon to add a bit to this.

They have replied to my message by saying that apparently I should have had a preview screen showing what I was signing up to prior to hitting return. As far as I am aware I do not recollect that and all I remember signing for was the 3 day £1.99 option. They do not issue receipts/emails verification - are there any laws on this as there is no proof as to what I signed for apart from what they said was on my screen!0

This sounds really dodgy. DO complain to the CC company about them. Instigate a chargeback.
Anyway you've already ticked one of my boxes - spelling/good grammar;)Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Don't be so down about it - it might well work (says she who has never yet had to instigate a chargeback).
I seem to get my problems sorted earlier;) can't think why! :rotfl:Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
