Advice regarding references and an offerred job position

  • If they said that all they would provide is dates and say you resigned then surley this is what they will say?. I think you will have to probably wait and see what happens and think about what you are going to say if the new employer asks you about it further.
Making a mistake doesnt make you a liability as someone very nastily said! I would ignore that and just thank god your not asking a question about benefits. You should read the stick people get on there.

Cheers for your post. From speaking to someone at my current employer who is clued up on employment law he has advised me that whilst they could say why I resigned it is very unlikely they will for fear of being sued. Furthermore as they were an agency he has advised me this even more so means that they will probably only confirm dates.

I suppose I have to think of the positives in that I have been with my current employer for nearly 6 years and have a clean record to a point where I've been told I will get a good reference.

If the new employer ignores that and uses a mistake from so long ago against me then perhaps they are not the company to work for. From what I have read on them I highly doubt that this is the case. We all make mistakes at the end of the day.
