I'm in the process of selling my property and buying a new one. My proprty is on the market (waiting for a buyer) and we have seen a property that we like. I have my mortgage sorted out and I'm in the process of appointing a Solicitor..........how confusing is this?
I've phoned 4 local Solicitor's and asked them to send me their costs and disbursement costs. Having recieved these back, each Solicitor lists different items and different costs and are not consistant. I don't seem to be able to compare like for like.
Does anyone know a difinitive list from which I compare their costs?
Thanks in advance

Maybe the best thing to do is to ask them approx how much the costs would be based on the price you expect to get for the house you are selling & the price you are paying for the new one. This is information I found I was asked for when I was trying compare the legal costs when I last moved 2 years ago. Sometimes it pays to go a little bit further afield & not stick to someone on your doorstep. You should only need to visit them once during the selling & buying process to sign the necessary paperwork. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Paying solicitors to do conveyancing is simply lining their pockets. Do you think you get the solicitor doing it - no you get a clerk in the office.
It is a very straightforward process and just requires a few forms filling out and sending off.
Consider doing it yourself - you will save hundreds of pounds
There are some excellent books on the subject which you can borrow from your libraryI say what I like, I like what I say!0 -
I thought this was a legal thing that need to be conducted by solicitors??0

Have a look at this. I have not yet used it myself but the prices seems very good and would probably get a better service from them than any solicitor!!
