Hello all again,
I posted here some time ago when I was made redundant and my previous employer kept ‘delaying’ my redundancy month by month.

You gave some great advice so I have come back for some more.

A little background...

Put my foot down and was finally made fully redundant. I got the opportunity almost immediately to work for a renowned employer (massive multinational). The job was all it cracked up to be. The team were ace, the job brilliant and the company fabulous..... Demonstrated by the department’s employment longevity (19 was the minimum someone had worked there) sadly after nine months there we were advised we were all being made redundant and the work outsourced.

I was absolutely delighted to be offered an interview then a job in another company in the same field at the same level. I felt very lucky what with the current climate. That feeling wore off almost immediately.........Oh my gosh it could have not been more different. The infighting, biotching, back stabbing was seen to be believed. (If you saw the ‘milk theft’ thread that was the work of a single rogue manager in an otherwise great workplace and nothing compared the shenanigans going on at this place)

I was shocked at the level of absolute no holds barred viciousness between the management, staff and general inter team nastiness. After 6 weeks I realised it was not for me and started interviewing again and was offered a job at a massive multinational with the same type of ethos as my previous employer.

I was offered the job and given a start date of today. I handed my notice in at ‘Cathouse Central’

Worked my notice and late on the last day of my employment the massive multinational I was going to suddenly said they had put the role on hold. (I was due to orientation today, no paperwork or contract signed as this was to be covered off today)

Cue a massive panic.

Cathouse central was delighted at my predicament and basically laughed in my face when I humbly asked if I could stay on a little longer (which is their right and to be fair why would they knowing I would bail at the first opportunity)

So my question. As I have voluntarily made myself jobless, does this mean I can’t sign on?

The job market here (and most places is dire) I am panicking as last time i was very lucky and know getting a job is hard at the moment and not having even JSA would be a disaster.

I am awaiting my JSA appt to come through (completed the form online) but as i haven’t slept properly since Thursday i wondered your thoughts....

(ps i have hit every job website hard this weekend so hopefully i wont be jobles for long!)
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...

As far as JSA is concerned, you should be fine. This isn't a case of making your intentional unemployed. It just bad luck and it happens. Just explain what happened, and they might want some proof that the new employer withdrew the job offer.

Depending on the exact state of the letters between you and your future employer you may already be employed by them and they are actually dismissing you.

If you have been offered a position and have accepted it then legally you are employed even if you haven't signed a contract yet. You are employed under the terms and conditions of the new job which means your employed may be liable to pay you the stated notice period.

It's all "maybe" depening on exactly what correspondence exists.

Either way you're not voluntarily jobless as you had a job which the new employer took away.
