I pay £27.50 just outside Liverpool.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Costs will vary according to area ie London will be more than a suburb of a small city, length of time of appointment and what needs doing.
Generally routine hygiene visits cost roughly £30 to £60 a visit but can cost more if longer time or medications needed.
You need a referral if you see a hygienist elsewhere as they cannot see you without a dentist seeing you first.0 -
I charge £75 for a 30 min appt with mine, but the vast majority of my patients are on Denplan, so don't pay anything extra to see her.
Direct access to a hygienist isn't allowed at the moment - they can only work to the prescription of a dentist, so 'shopping around' is difficult.
If the dentist says you need it, ad writes down the instruction, then you could take that to any hygienist, but they generally work within a dental praactice, and are usually busy with the patients of that practice, so won't see any 'extras'.
There are now one or two hygienist practices around the country, who have set up their own practices and see people on referral from a dentist - but they are still quite rare places.
I would say £48 was not a bad price providing it's for a decent length appointment with a decent hygienist. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I'm in NW London and pay £55, which seems okay-ish to me. The appointment is normally about 20-30 minutes and she is very thorough. It's my favourite bit of going to the dentist!0
