Month In hand.

I am starting a new trial for a job and basically if I get it I would be required to work a month in hand. I was told that if i work september I wouldnt be paid until the 28th of October, and then octobers work would not be paid until 28th of November and so on.
Is this acceptable, what rights do I have? I left my last job in June and had a family bereavement so only signed back on a couple of weeks ago as money had ran out.
Do I also qualify for tax credits? I dont think I earnt over 13000 the last year.
Sorry for all the questions, its just that you seem to get valid and accurate results off this site.
Thanks

On the 28th of October, would you be paid for both September and October?0

The OP has said October will be paid in November.Humphrey10 wrote: »On the 28th of October, would you be paid for both September and October?0 -
That's pretty commonplace. Your rights go as far as take it, leave it, or negotiate.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
Yes, they can do it and you don't have anything to my knowledge you can do about it.0

You could ask for the first month to be phased if possible. When my dad moved onto monthly pay his first wage was paid after two weeks so that he had something in the bank. Worth an ask0

It's only like working a week in hand same principle really0

If you do take the job keep scrupulous records of work and pay, it tis not unknown for companies to forget the monthin hand when you leave.
Also watch out for the signs of money troubles, expecialy late payments of pay. it wouod be vry easy for the place to fold and owe you 2-3 months.0 -
I have that arrangement and it pretty much sucks...although it will be quite nice when I finally leave and get continued to be paid for an extra month. That said, the first month is really hard - I started at the beginning of July and still haven't been paid. We are eating a LOT of beans on toast at the moment!0
