  • Had we known it was a CCJ we would have borrowed the money and paid it off!! Im saying its not a small bill as in a bill from a mobile phone etc, its a bill that rightly we shouldnt even be paying as we let the council know that he went back to work - you never win with the bloody council though!!

Would it look any different on his credit if it got paid up though or not?!

95% mortgage you have no chance.

Get the default paid off, get a broker onto it and you MIGHT be able to get a 90% mortgage although i wouldnt hold my breath. I think you will be looking at a 15% deposit.

It would look loads better than paying off £327 at £10/month. £10/month on a CCJ looks like you are firmly in the can't pay won't pay camp and this is all the money you have spare after beer, fags, mobile phone, lottery, sky and sofa. Not the message you want to deliver if you are after a mortgage.

  • Umm I suppose, it isnt all that we can afford we could pay more but at the time we were !!!!ed off that the council had taken it to the courts when they are in the wrong so we wanted to pay the smallest amount possible if you know what I mean - we didnt really have intentions of buying back then.

As people have said above though, if we have no chance of getting a 95% mortgage with a CCJ then is it worth us putting ourselves out of pocket right now?

Have you read through your posts? I have just done it...

They basically read as "if there is no benefit in it for us, then they can wait for their money". Thats a good outlook to have when applying for money...i wish you a lot of luck with that one!

    Enjoy renting. For longer.
  • If we were paying money to own our own house then it would be paid, as this is a debt that we shouldnt even be paying we feel very reluctant to even pay them - it isnt a case of choosing not to pay them, we have 2 children and im not going to pay off the lump sum if its going to put us out of pocket right now and not actually get us anywhere wether its paid or not - its common sense if you have children to look after not because we dont want to pay it off, im asking a general question which seems to me that even if we paid the lump sum off we still wouldnt get anywhere because we dont have a bit enough deposit etc

    You have £9k.
There is no immediate problems to you or your family if you pay off £300.
If you were on the breadline id be agreeing with you whole heartedly, but your not.

You owe the money, if you dont then go to court and get it revoked - not agreeing with it doesnt mean you dont owe it. If you cant be bothered, then im presuming your not that fussed about owning your own home.

You cant decide which bills you want to pay or not and only pay the ones that relate to you owning your own home...life isnt like that.

You owe the money though so surely you should settle it. Settling the CCJ will mark it as satisfied and will help given time.

You also stated you did not know the CCJ was in place despite receiving a letter from Northampton County Court which presumably had a judgement for debt contained within.

You seem to be blaming everybody for this and not taking any action to resolve.

You also sate your friends got a 95 %mortgage so seem to think that entitles you to one. Do your friends have any CCJ's? Did they have high income multiples? Not everybody is the same so you cannot compare what others may have been advanced.

  • Get the CCJ paid off ASAP. None of this arguing, just take responsibility.

focus on doubling (and possibly tripling) your savings. Shouldn't take long if you're getting back into work shortly

Remember to have around £3000 for solicitors/valuation fees too.
