I made a cake earlier but made too much butter cream icing. Can I freeze it?

I don't know about freezing it but I had some in an airtight container in the fridge for a month and it was fine, just added a tiny bit of boiling water to soften it. Hope this helpsMonthly Grocery Challenge-April
