They want to build 2000 to3000 houses near me in the greenbelt..
You want to hear the NIMBYs screaming about it,
They have set up a action group ect ect but the funny thing is they all live in a exclusive development of £500k houses that was built 15years ago on greenbelt i played on as a kid..Not one of them does not live on land that was not greenbelt...
I told them the score at a public meeting and nearly got lynched..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Nimbys only want to stop riff raff from building on beautifull landscapes, their view is that nobody should be able to plant a property on something so wonderful, at least not after they did it.

your missing the point mate..... all i'm saying is that building on greenbelt land just makes a small amount of people win the lottery when selling their land, and we lose what little amount of green land we have in the city for good.

if you look at my area on google maps you have the golf course, and this piece of green land, take that away and we have no-where in the near area to walk our dogs etc.

how would you feel in this situation?

You said it was all fenced off anyway?

Therefore presumably you have no where to walk the dog now and it wouldn't make any difference?

The "don't build near me, it's a beauty spot" thing always gets me. I don#t want building everywhere either. I was true beauty spots left as true beauty spots. But the "don't build near me" is looking out for ones self, and there is nothing more to it.

If you felt quite so strongly about building in a beauty spot, you wou;dn't buy said building in a beauty spot.

My mum and dad are the same though. My mum said it would be terrible to build on some fields 3 miles away. I asked her when she had ever used, or even been in said fields. She hasn't....but she might want to, she says. You can bet your bottom dollar she never pines to walk on the fields that once were as she drives past current houses though.
  • Anyway, as much I do not think mass house building does not have to wreck the countryside, simply anti house building lobbys and "green belt saviours" along with NIMBYS can go and stuff themselves.

Rightly or wrongly we have allowed 10 million immigrants into the UK in the last 10 years, it is something I did not want, but we are where we are.
Now we have to home them.

Most cynical thing I have seen recently were a number of Cambridgeshire village NIMBYS protesting about a affordable new build estate, yet between them they had dozens of BTL's tenanted with in many cases Eastern europeans

    Why?

Name another single country that you could emigrate to, where they would house you.
  • Houses won't be built without done kind of profit being made by builders, there baley making profits at current prices let alone if prices dropped

That's easy for you to say.

You should post this point as a new thread, to get the lively discussion and debate it deserves.
  • I'm a NIMBY and proud to be one! c014.gif

There's enough brownfield sites around to house the riff-raff.

Always the way. Thing is, they'll likely lose their 'battle' if the development will be lucrative enough. The attitude is unfathomable to me. If you buy at the very edge of a growing town, your countryside views will not last for long. It's the way of the world.
    FACT.
