Barclaycard - Can't BT from Nationwide

Options
Hi Guys,

Does anybody have any idea why Barclaycard's website still won;t allow a balance transfer from a Nationwide Select CC?

When you try to complete the form you get: "Balance Transfer is not suported for this Credit card."

I tried to call them up to take advantage of the 0% until June 2013 offer, but was told this was an online-only offer and they could only process my BT over the phone at 6.9% life-of-balance as the 0% offer was not showing on their system.

After a bit of a moan at a manager (because her staff member kept insisting the offer I was looking at on my screen did not exist!) she stated her staff member was correct and I was wrong!

Surely if the website is faulty the phone team should be able to process the BT at the advertised rate??

    Any of these apply..

    1. The amount transferred must not exceed 90% of the available credit on your account. If your credit limit is not enough to cover the balance transfer amount in full, we will ask you to confirm whether you would like to transfer a lower amount.
    2. We reserve the right to refuse a credit card balance transfer or to limit the amount that you can transfer. We may need to ask you to provide further information before confirming your balance transfer.
    3. We cannot accept transfers to other credit card or loan accounts held with Barclays Bank PLC or any other Barclays group company.
    4. If you make your balance transfer request during your application for a new Barclaycard, then you will commit to making your balance transfer when you sign up to your agreement.

I'm not sure if the bolding was by you, but the card is a Nationwide account, not a barclay's one.

It's also a known issue and can be seen by a very easy google search that the website has difficulty with the new Select card numbers.

Whilst number 2 could apply, they have not refused the BT, simply stated that they cannot process the offer over the phone, despite the website giving an error with a nationwide select card number.

Did you have any joy with this ?, I had and still have the same problem for several months, I think it was when Nationwide changed to the Select card that the problems started.

I tried to get some sensible answers but call centre was useless and could not answer anything but finally got to someone who says that there is a number that needs to be set up on Barclays system to recognise each CC and this had not been done but they were sure it would be done soon. This was at least 3 months ago and it still does not work so clearly dont hold your breath !!

I do find it strange that this has not been fixed as its not as if Nationwide is a small provider and there must be loads of people in the same boat.

If anyone from Barclys reads these boards then please try and sort it as the call centres are the most frustrating people to speak to if you need anything even slightly away from the norm, Barclaycard website is excellent and I want to use it for BTsbut cant as my 2 credit cards are Barclays and Nationwide.

As of mid February, this still won't work - I just tried it. Phonecalls to Barclaycard end up in a foreign call centre, so forget trying to explain the situation to them..

I sympathise with you since the whole thing is clearly frustrating and infuriating. Is there an email address you can use to send them a screen grab? One showing the 0% offer and the other showing the rejected card message. That may help to change their minds about accepting it over the phone at 0%

In case you have not tried again recently finally after many many months I can now do an online BT via the Barclaycard website to the Nationwide Select card so it seems they have fixed whatever the problem was.

Thanks for the update. Must have been recent, because I tried it a month or so ago and it didn't work.

It's Nationwide who should be complained to. If they send out cards with BIN numbers that weren't registered a long time ago, then they're sending out useless cards. And they know it. But they don't care.

Barclaycard aren't blameless - they did the same thing with the World Mastercards that replaced the Egg Money cards.

Not completely useless, the 12 months 0% on purchases, 0.5% cashback and no forex fees on purchases make it pretty useful :D.
