Curry's has lost Tablet in for repair. How much compensation?

We bought a tablet for about £180 for our son 11 months ago. The screen stopped working so we took it in for repair a month ago. It was still under warranty. When we'd heard nothing, we phoned up (long time on hold at premium rate number) only to be told that it seemed never to have arrived at the repair site. Someone promised to phone back. They didn't. Went back to the shop today and they had no knowledge of the issue. Someone has again offered to phone, and they have said, if it is indeed missing, they will give us a voucher equal to the original value of the tablet. However, it will probably render the docking station we bought obsolete as well as other accessories and apps on the tablet. Is Curry's responsible only for the cost of the original item? We're not greedy, but this is very annoying and we think they're being very casual about it. Advice appreciated.

What sort of tablet is it? If it's android all you apps will be in your Google account when you sign in on the new tablet, everything can also be backed up so the loss of anything on the tablet won't really be curry's problem as such if you haven't backed up before sending If you purchase the same tablet all your accessories will still work and IF the same model is a higher price I would be pushing for the difference.0

Under the SoGA a company has the right to offer one of the following remedies - repair faulty goods, replace them or refund the purchase price.
Assuming the tablet is indeed lost then their offer to repair has failed so your remedies are now either a refund (NOT a voucher) or a replacement.
(I think)
So I wouldn't be accepting a voucher!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I think a refund of the full amount is fair, after all what if they hadn't lost it but instead found it to be unrepairable that is the most you would get regardless of what accessories you have bought since.
They may still find your tablet, I think they send them to the manufacturer unless you've taken out an extra cover for it so it may just be that someone hasn't updated it on the system or they are waiting to hear back from the manufacturer if they actually have it or not.0 -
I'm not very technically minded so when I ask about the docking station not being compatible I'm not being arguementative I'm simply asking why a new tablet of the same model etc be incompatible.
In any event I would expect to be put back in the same position that I was in before Currys lost the item so yes, if the accessories etc proved to be incompatible then I would expect them to provide compensation for that as well, though proving what apps (and their cost) was on the tablet may be difficult.
As for appearing casual - well yes I would want them to run around like headless chickens as well but sometimes other people don't see the urgency with our problem like we do2014 Target;

When you say other accessories and apps ? There was no need to send these with the tablet and if you paid for software then you should have the licence key for them and should be able to download them again.
The docking station will work ok if you use the voucher to buy a tablet thats compatible wih it.
Personally would consider a voucher for the original cost of the tablet as being a good offer considering they have come down in price. I recently bought one from PC World that was about £400 a few months back but now you can buy the same model for £120I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0 -

Also they are not responsible for the cost of any accessories you bought.
What you DO want is firm action - not 'someone has offered to phone' - give them a time limit within which to sort this.
When did you take the tablet in?
What was their repair timescale?

well its a big probably
whats the tablet model?
what is the dock model and connection method?
If you get the cost of the tablet, then replace it with the same. no issue?
Apps are to the account,not device0 -
Curry's PC World recently lost our laptop when we sent it in for repair under our Knowhow agreement, we got a voucher for the price of an equivalent laptop, which ended up quite a bit higher as the young man at the store hunted us out the best special offer he could find, plus they got Microsoft to allow the supposedly one off activation codes to be reused so we didn't have to rebuy office.
I know yours is a tablet not a laptop but perhaps the above will be useful.0 -

Its not difficult to get Microsoft to let you reuse activation codes, you just phone them up and say it is only being used on 1 PC. They didn't really do anything out of the ordinary.0 -

Not sure SoGA is relevant here. The fact is the item has been lost.
OP is entitled to be put in the same position he was in before it was lost - i.e. with the tablet.
Compensation would be replacement value.0
