New job wage confusion!!

I have just taken on a cleaning job working between 4 & 5 hours per week. He paid me in cash, when I asked if he needed my NI number he said no but then said that it is going through the books. I don't really understand. I didn't get a wage slip and he has none of my details. How can this go through the books???

There's no tax nor NI to pay on that amount.... he's just being lazy not providing you with a wage slip, or maybe he'll give you bunches of them at a time at some future point, or monthly.

Maybe he's putting it down as an expense and relying on you to be self employed.
You really need to speak to your boss and clarify it as we can only guess - we can't tell you what your boss is doing.0 -

Because of the low amount you're earning, no employers NI or tax is due as the lower limit it starts being paid is £107/week therefore there is no need to get your NI number although technically the employer should do to verify your right to work in the UK.
It can go through the books as a wages expense.
No fraud is being committed here.0 -

The employer should get a P46 completed by the new employee though, and as the P46 requires the NI number to be filled in I would guess that this has not been done.0 -

An NI number does not prove the right to work in the UK.0 -
Yawn....
Correct on its own it doesn't however it is pretty much the norm to request it when doing a verification process.0
