Missed mortgage payment through no fault of my own. . .

I previously banked with Alliance & Leicester, now with Santander. It appears that in July, Santander cancelled my mortgage direct debit for RBS without authorisation from me. I didn't realise at the time. I only became aware when my mortgage lender informed me of a failed direct debit.

It appears this happened because of the change in sort-codes from Alliance and Leicester to Santander. Santander say they informed my mortgage company. My mortgage company say they were not informed. This leaves me with a missed payment on my credit file just at the time I was looking to remortgage. I have escalated a complaint with both companies, but need to know what impact this missed payment will have on my re-mortgage plans. I have never missed a mortgage payment before and am absolutely furious about this.
