SSP on bank holidays?

Hi all,
My partner is going in for an operation a week today (Thursday April 5th). He will be signed off by the hospital for 2 weeks.

It's Good Friday and Easter Monday right after his operation.

His company will only give him SSP for any days off sick (charmed, I'm sure..) - the sick note will start from the day of the operation.

Am I right in saying that he will only be entitled to SSP for the bank holidays as well as the remaining time signed off?

Wondering if we can convince the hospital to date his sick note from the Tuesday 10th and give him a week and a bit instead! Naughty, but his employer are really crap as regards sick pay, holiday entitlement, and daily breaks (he gets the absolute minimum for these even though he's an IT manager earning around 20k and the company is pretty crippled without him as it's quite small...)

Thanks for any help.

  • Hi Noctu

Unless his contract states otherwise then yes, he would only be entitled to SSP whilst off sick. Remember the first three days are waiting days for which he would get nothing, thereafter its £14.01 a day (£70.05 per week) As his company will have just started the new payroll year then he wouldnt get a tax refund either which sometimes bumps this up a few pounds.

Anyway I hope all goes well with the op
Happy riding on two or three
