                    Hi all
I work in a small nursery in slough..I am trying to set up a book library for the parents so they can borrow books for advise etc... I have one problem....I have no funding
I'm wondering if anyone knows where you can get 'real' books for free or very very cheap as I may have to fund this adventure from my own very empty pocket.
Note Im after website or places to go advise so hope this thread is not breaking any rules
Thanks

            Try these people http://www.healthyplanet.org/projects/books-for-free.aspx
They save books from landfill and being pulped by getting publishers and distributors to donate them and give them away free in their shops.
There's a branch in Slough.
Part of the site is this page http://www.healthyplanet.org/projects/books-for-free/involve-your-school.aspx that says they give free books to schools so they may be happy to donate to your parenting library for a nursery.
Worth a try!0 -

Car boot sales and charity shops - sometims u can get 10 for a £1
Or even ebay - job lots - 500 books £20 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Job-Lot-of-550-600-Books-/190717839623?pt=UK_Collections_Lots_Books_EH&hash=item2c67ab4907
Or alternatively - tell the parents about the idea and ask them if they could donate any books to start you off.

have you thought about applying for funding, if its for the benefit of the community you may be able to get something from the biglottery fund
http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/prog_a4a_eng
they have an awards for all fund which is for just this sort of thing, but it will depend on the nature of your organisation and the benefits that can be demonstrated. heres the criteria- you are a not-for-profit group, or you are a parish or town council, school or health body
 - you have a bank account that requires at least two unrelated people to sign each cheque or withdrawal
 - you have a governing body with at least three unrelated members
 - you can spend the grant within one year
 - you have a bank account that requires at least two unrelated people who do not live at the same address, to sign each cheque or withdrawal’.

Appologies for any bad spelling in my posts i do my best but they are unavoidable.0
