Nuisance calls from credit card companies.

I'm in the process of sorting out a DMP via Payplan but I'm being inundated with phone calls from credit card companies wanting to know when I'm going to make a next payment.
Both my partner and I work nights, and we have problems at the moment with close family members being very ill. Whilst I'm more than happy to respond to letters, or even e-mails, I don't want to be pestered at all hours on the phone.
Am I able to insist that they remove my telephone number from their records and only contact me by letter or e-mail?? Has anyone any experience of having succeeded in stopping these calls.

Unfortunately this is part of the process it seems, when setting up a DMP. The companies concerned are basically trying to harass you into paying them more, before the DMP comes into effect.
You can write to each one of them (send it recorded so they can't say they didn't get it, and keep a copy of it of course), asking them to not call you. Sadly though these companies seem to be a law unto themselves, and may not take any notice of this. However you can then report them for harassing you to BT and then they sometimes do stop.
You can subscribe to BT choose to refuse service which allows you to block calls say from number witheld numbers (which these companies do so that you can't tell it is them calling). I think it is free for the first month. But you would have to check with BT.
The only other thing I can suggest is that you tell them that their calling is affecting your job performance, and if you are sacked because of your poor performance, they won't be getting any money at all. This sometimes works. Remember they will try anything to get more money out of you, so perhaps a little white lie like this is justified. Up to you of course.
Once you DMP has been accepted by the companies concerned (and this can take a while I am afraid), these calls will tail off.
There is a form letter that is floating around on the boards which I hope someone will post up for you (I am not the originator of it so I don't know where it is), which has all the relevant sections of the communications act in.
Sorry to not be any more positiveI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

This webpage has a lot of detail on what to do to stop telephone harrassment by debtors: stop creditor harrassmentThe past: Single teenage mother of twins: debt everywhere!
The present: Wage slave for a FTSE 100, no debt but the mortgage & my time.
The future: My time will be my own, my money will be my own.

I had this problem a couple of years ago. I just phoned them and asked them to remove my number from their records. Which they did, suprisingly.BCSC Member 70:j
