HELP!! Does this seem like an average price for a laptop?

Hi all,
I have been desperate for a laptop for a while and have discovered one in the lx direct catalogue which on the face of things seems quite good value.
I have'nt got the cash to go and buy from a store or I know I would get a much better deal, so getting one on credit is my only option:( .
There is also a discount code over on the codes board for 10% off which takes the total including delivery to £389.60.:j
Could anyone with a bit of knowledge take a peek and let me know if they think it seems ok for the money or if it is a bit of a rip-off.

Thanks very much in advance xx

Dear Lord,
I pray for wisdom to understand my man, love to forgive him and patience for his moods, because Lord, if I pray for strength, I'll beat him to death. :rotfl:

You can get credit on ebuyer - and save a couple of quid.
(also available on dell...)
edit: and for what it's worth, I have an acer almost identical to that one (although with MCE, not vista) and it's fine. Isn't going to touch games, but for web browsing/word/excel etc it's fine.0 -
Also, you can get some pretty good deals on acers mo tesco. They have tripple points on direct at the mo, which means you'd get £40-50 worth of vouchers out of buying from there. And iirc you can do some sort of "buy now, pay later" thing if you take out a tesco CC.0

There's a better Dell deal - go to the thread in "grabbit". The spec is better & the price is lower. But be quick, I think it finishes TODAY. Don't go directly into Dell, you won't get the same deal.
I certainly think it's good - I've bought 2 myself!0 -
I would have suggested that, but I thought it had finished already...0

Unless you need the latest and greatest I'd advise buying a used laptop.
As an IT bod I'm of the opinion there hasn't really been any significant change in computer power/spec for about 2-3 years so I'd recommend a £150 - £200 used one.
I too use an older laptop (a 4 year old compaq) which got for £200 about 2 years ago. Even for the relatively high end programmed systems development I do it's fine for the task.
On the rough assumption you want it for internet/email/office tasks save yourself a packet and buy used.
Something like a Pentium 4 with 256MB - 512MB ram should do you fine. There are many companies out there selling reconditioned ex-lease and factory remanufactured items.
Also IBM have rebadged themselves as "Lenovo", as such the old named IBM thinkpads can be picked up cheaply.
I'm also of the opinion you're better off with a used quality brand rather than a new cheap brand. Think of it like buying a 3 year old Mercedes rather than a new Vauxhall.
Good luck!0 -

I wouldn't touch Acer with 2 barge poles joined together. They don't have the greatest of reputations.0
