£30 of pay missing every week

I have just started a new job a few weeks back and have noticed there is always £30 a week unaccounted for , I dont know where it goes and there is nothing on the payslip either to show me . I am working through an agency who either dont know or dont want to let me know where it is going . Does anyone have any idea where or why this money could be missing

    Child Support Agency?
    National Insurance?
    Tax?
    Loan for a season ticket?

Why not post here exactly what it says on your payslip so we don't need to guess and maybe offer you an answer?
  • Do you have a travel/subsistence scheme? It may be called something else on the payslip.

It allows you to receive a portion of your pay tax-free, but agencies usually keep part of the difference between the taxed and the tax-free amounts as extra profit for themselves.

It says nothing on paylip . The deductions shown are just tax and Ni . On the payslip it will have gross pay then net . If i deduct the tax and Ni from gross the net take home is 30 pound less than it should be .

Yes, I work for an agency and they give me £1 per worked hour of holiday pay, which they keep on account. But this doesn't come out of my wage as such, say my agreed rate is £10p.h. that's what is on my payslip and I get the full £10xhours-tax & NI. The hols pay comes out of the fee the agency charges the company I'm working for.

BUT this means that I haven't paid tax and NI on the holiday pay while it sits in the agency's account, so that is taxed when I actually cash the holidays in. Meaning if I were to take a day or half-day holiday, it would probably be too low to be taxed on, but if (like this week) I take a full week, I "lose" quite a chunk of the money. Maybe the way yours is set up is to avoid this and your holiday pay has already been taxed, so when you ask for £x of it you receive £x.

    I hope that makes sense?
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

What makes no sense to me is this:

Surely the payslip should add up - and this doesn't? Even if it has been explained, it seems unsatisfactory to me ...

This is an umbrella company. So yes - you are in fact "saving" for your holiday and it is perfectly legal. You also can't take any holiday unless it is accrued.
