Just got my hopes up to buy my Housing Assoc flat but Abbey wrote today to say due to the construction (concrete) they will not lend on it. It has been "reinstated" with brick cladding and should be to morgageable standards, according to my landlord and engineer's certificate. I have lived here for six years, been saving…

Also the asbestos if quite far removed from the property in brick sheds. In any case could be removed if they were really concerned. It should hardly be a reason not to lend. I think they just keep trying to get out of lending, any excuse. All of us renting had better either put up with it or give up altogether.
