Magnetic Scrabble Board

I have quite a large (magnetic) whiteboard and I would like to make it into a magnetic scrabble board for use in school. My plan was to have an ongoing game between two teams in class, hence it having to be magnetic. I can easily magnetise scrabble letters by sticking a magnet on the reverse, but I'm having issues with the actual board. I've yet to buy anything because I'm not confident if it'd work so just wanted some feedback.
I was going to stick a scrabble board to the whiteboard, but I don't think that the scrabble letters will stick to it properly due to the thickness of the board.
There is magnetic paint, but it only comes in a grey colour so that's useless.
I was then thinking of possible peeling the top outer layer of the scrabble board away then sticking it on (which would work!) but I envision it going wrong half way and me being left with nothing.
I could draw out the scrabble grid...ha!
Finally, there are some scrabble-esque word/excel templates around, but I would like it to look quite nice and not have a print out. I've had a search for professional scrabble board posters, but I guess it's copyrighted.
Any ideas?!

Thanks to you both for your help. I think I'll do a mixture of both of your ideas.
