Do you normally tan but it just takes longer?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Would you not be better getting a base tan i.e. a few sessions on a sun bed over a number of weeks before you go and take a multi-vitamin? This is what I did before going to Turkey and I tanned very easily. Please note not that I advise using sunbeds but it is your choice. Make sure if using the sunbed you use a filter sunbed cream on your skin.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Hi unixgirluk
Thanks for your replies
I have in the past used sunbeds but find that i get a warm red flush come up over my neck and chest (nothing to do with my age :rotfl: ) which is really uncomfortable and unsightly  ,so i have steered clear of them.
I see others getting an all over golden tan and i always look blotchy!!0 -
So do I until I found out why. Basically even the 3 minutes was too much to start with. So it sounds like you have very fair skin like me. The owner at one suggested just a minute if the bed was already warm i.e. I wasn't the first person using it after it had been switched on. I tried this even though I thought it was a waste of the other 2 minutes and did this twice a week gradually building up to the three minutes and found that there were no blotches.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Imedeen Tan Optimizer contains natural carotenoids from palmfruit extract and lycopene. You are right about it being an expensive way of improving your ability to acquire a natural suntan.
If you follow the in formation here How can my diet help protect me from sunburn? you will find ways your skin can be prepared to be better able to withstand the damaging effects of sunshine and tan quickly with less potential for burning.
Further support for the World's Healthiest Foods suggestion for Tomatoes can be found in this entertaining Video from the Truth about Food series.Tomatoes and Skin Protection Is there is there something we can do all year round to give added protection to our skin from harmful UV rays? You will find a couple of tablespoons of tomato puree added to meals really quite cheap and tasty and a much cheaper source of lycopene than Imedeen. I find Lidl's/Aldi's cheapo stuff perfectly OK.
Omega 3 status, particularly EPA, is important for the manufacture of Vitamin d3 in the skin so keeping your intake of oily fish high (3 times a week) will help protect you from burning. See Photoprotective and anti-skin-aging effects of eicosapentaenoic acid in human skin in vivo Other sources of EPA (the omega 3 essential fatty acid) are Flax Oil or ground flax seed. You may find this threadFlaxseed Wow useful.
You also need to understand that Vitamin d3 isn't just made in the skin but also as soon as it's made it acts as part of your skin's protection mechanism. See In vivo relevance for photoprotection by the vitamin D rapid response pathway. and Photoprotection by 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3 is associated with an increase in p53 and a decrease in nitric oxide products. So it really isn't a good idea to simply get your vitamin d only from tablets or capsules. It needs to be made in the skin to assist in your skins photoprotective ability. See The AntiBiotic Vitaminand the links at the end of this article to understand how this works.
I ought also to mention the protection given to the skin by GREEN TEA I've been drinking this now as my main beverage for some time. I've really grown to prefer it. I like it black, made with real tea leaves (although Tesco's Green Tea bags are OK) using water that's slightly off the boil. Leave it for slightly less time than brown tea to infuse and also use rather less. Doing this means it's not so harsh and contains less caffeine. I sometimes add a slice of lemon to the cup or a sliver of ginger. These both make a nice change.
The Vitamin D Council provides links to the cheapest source of high Strength Vitamin D3. (£13.50ish for 250 X 5000iu) I found last year that I tanned very quickly because I had been taking Vitamin D3 in the Winter and much the same is happening this year as already I have a noticable tan, though some of this is still the remains of last years.
Do be aware that excessive sun exposure particularly exposure that results in sunburn is harmful. All the Vitamin D you need is made in a quarter of the time it takes for your skin to burn. So before the slightest tinge of pink you should have covered up.
But if you average 4000iu of vitamin d3 daily from now till you go on holiday you will find that having optimised your vitamin d status your body will go straight into tan mode and start building the skins natural defence to too much sun exposure and switch on the tanning mechanism straight away.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
