If there is an overlap you probably need to fill in P46,
For a short overlap you might get away with just giving them the p45 when you get it.
for a long overlap a P46 will be needed, it will sort itself out but you may need to prompt HMRC if the wages in the old job are going down they will likely use last years as ab estimate for any split of the tax code.0 -
i will earn 6000 max in the job im in now if i keep on the part time work.im talking about permenantly. so it would leave an allowance of 2100 before tax on my new job should i just fill in a p46 and that will sort itself out. basicly do i need to inform them that i will only be working part time in the old job and give an estimate to how much i will earn in each job or just filling in a p46 they will make there own decision.or would it be more along the lines of i pay 20 percent on the new one and at the end of the year i have to write to them and ask for any unused to be ofset against my new job0

OP, if you're concerned, just call HMRC - they will able to sort it out for you on the phone. Just ask for your tax code to be fully applied to your new role.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
