cleaning wheatie bags

Help please! I have 2 wheatie bags - the kind you heat in the microwave, then use to help sore backs/shoulders/other joints.
Despite always wrapping in a towel etc. they have both become rather stained & dirty looking (lots of use over the last year!)
Has anyone tried washing them? Or any other method of cleaning?
Otherwise I could make new bags & decant the wheat in.

I washed ours in the washing machine and laid them on a radiator to dry and they seemed fine.. they just need to be dried as fast as possible and thoroughly so they don't get mouldy or sprout!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

Why not make them a new cover each? Just put it on over the old one.Val.0

Thanks both - I shall try both suggestions - wash first - then a second cover.0

I've also washed with success. Then boosted the scent that was lost with some essential oils.MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0
