I only fed my daughter for 6 weeks and she must have been about 7 before mine stopped. I do wish they would tell you as I felt there was something wrong, particularly as my Mum died of breast cancer. Unless it is a lot I wouldn't take any drugs to dry it up IMHO

I only breastfed for 2 months each bubba and they dried up fairly quickly. If they don't dry up naturally the docs can prescribe you some meds to to dry it up if it is a problem that you leak or owt.

Could be a lifesaver: I remember seeing on TV years ago a wizened old lady breastfeeding her grandchild after its mum starved to death in the Sudan

I used to sit on the Infant Feeding Working party at my local hospital and have also come across this. Grandmothers walk miles and miles with their orphaned grandchildren to health centres where they are helped to breastfeed the babies. If I remember correctly, they use a pump with a tube which is attached to the nipple. The baby then feeds on formula through the tube but at the grandmothers breast. After a period of time, the stimulation on the grandmother's breasts triggers her natural lactation and they trudge back to their village feeding the babies - as you say, a lifesaver.

I don't know for certain but I think this will only work for women who have previously given birth.

The body is an amazing thing don't you think.

If you are leaking all over the place then it would be worth talking to your HV but if it is only a drop or two when you massage, then it is perfectly normal. Personally, I find it sort of comforting to know that my body could still produce milk if needed.

Has been known to work for those women who have not given birth, but want to b/f - eg, in the case of an adopted child

Does anyone else recall a docu that was shown years ago about experimental milk production in men? Okay, so it sounds awful and rather pointless however it investigated the effects of exposing a group of men to test conditions to see whether their bodies could produce milk if given certain stimuli? My fading memory recalls that they were able to produce evidence that the milk glands that are normally dormant could be awakened.

Uselss bit of info I know so I'll go and wash up lunch dishes now ...

Not pointless at all, think of all those middle of the night feeds that could be shared.:rotfl:
