  • why don't you still do chilli? I find it easy to make bigger for more people by adding more tinned tomatoes, veg etc. and rice is really cheap.
Chilli is my specialty when i have visitors! Weather they like it or not!:rotfl:
    Nothing to declare ;)

newmrslockwood - i had been toying with the idea of stil doing the chilli but now you've helped me decide! I just need some more mince, should only be £1.30 from butchers. Was going to do it with jacket pots (got plently) but also have rice in the cupboard I'd forgot about. Also can whack it in SC, I'm looking after my little cousin in the day and then her and her dad are staying for tea so doing it in SC will free up my day.

    thank you!

Does anyone use baked beans in their chilli? Sure I've had it before, I don't use kidney beans but these might bulk it up a bit.
Lightbulb moment 15th Feb 2007:doh: Now Debt Free and plan on it staying that way!

    Baby on board!:D
  • Yeah i use baked beans all the time. my son says he doesn't like kidney beans! but i cant tell the difference when they're in a chilli!

Popped into Sainsburys for a prescription (£6.85!) and got tempted in the wait and bought some bananas, diet coke, reduced sausages and deodorant and ended up spending £4.60.
    Running total now £12.46.
Nearly half way through the month now and still have quite a bit in the freezer and cupboards - should get to next weekend (Friday 20th) without a big shop.

Approx £87.50 left to get to the end of the month - should do this comfortably. I have stopped drinking wine as an experiment for the month and this seems to be saving me plenty!

Like the idea of happyathome's spreadsheet but I think it'd take me long... unless I blag an excel course at work!
This is my second month of trying and it's actually going quite well despite my DH being at home with the boys last week unsupervised. Pay day is 20th so might make it but freezer and fridge getting empty- unless you count choccie eggs!.
Do any of you guys take out a weeks worth of cash and only spend that? I'd like to do that but I also do an occasional e-shop when I've got a free delivery voucher.
Just call me Nodwah the thread killer

i have a tenner left of my budget till next friday 20th. and all i need is fruit. freezer is chest buldging due to spending £500 last month and freezer in kitchen is full of homemade meal. i so proud of my freezer. i really sorted it out. and literelly not a thing in there is in a shop bought box or packet. i have made everything into a meal. so about 2 weeks worth of meals in there alone.

but we have 3 huge family b-b-q we having all within 10 days for different occasions. one is my in-laws 30 years since meeting one is our 5th wedding anniversary and sons 2nd birthday and the other is my cousins wedding. so i am going to start each week buying somethign towards them ie drinks and longlife things to help with cost at a nearer date.

Hi Im a newbie! Have been paying off debts for several years now and also sticking to food budget fairly well but not writing anything down or keping receipts - am inspired and will start now! Will just keep everything this month and start my real plan at the end of April when I next get paid. I am a really frugal person and make most things from scratch but sometimes works means I dont always have the time to make things. Thanks to all for inspiration.
