The Dutch housing market saw the steepest price decline on record in July, continuing the trend of recent months.

Prices fell 8% year-on-year, statistics bureau CBS reported on Tuesday, the worst slump since the agency started records 17 years ago.

my calculations are that the average house in the netherlands has a footprint of approximately 50-55 square metres, whereas the UK average is apparently 13 square metres.

13 square metres is a box approximately 3.6 metres square (about 140 square feet), otherwise known as one pretty small double bedroom.

so, the outcome of this discussion is that the price / square metre figures are clearly nonsense (definitely for the UK and probably for the netherlands as well as 50sq metres is a 1 bed flat).

Average per square metre (sq. m.) prices in US$/€ of 120-sq. m. apartments located in the centre of the most important city of each country

The desperation index is reaching new highs.

    That's a bit of a fail.

Upmarket areas in Edinburgh are about £3000/sq. metre so maybe they're due a bit of HPI?

You have to remember that macaque is a leading light in the so-called 70% club.

My understanding of its objective is to ensure that all statistics given are at least 70% wrong - either way - compared to true figures.

Except the average property in the Netherlands sold for 214k euros in Q1 2012 - .

The figures you're quoting for the Netherlands are for The Hague and Amsterdam.

Your figures for the UK would make the average (80 square metres) house £1.2million.

The figures you're using are for Central London and other upmarket areas of London.

The info is from the links you provided.

Who would want to live in Dutchland anyway ?

Most of the country is 6 foot below sea level (and falling ) and they make you wear wooden shoes in case the dykes burst.
