Retake maths GCSE

I'm 22 and have a Grade C in my Maths GCSE. To get onto a course at University that interests me they require Grade A. I've looked around to see where I can resit my Maths GCSE, but I keep getting the same message. Because I have a Grade C I won't be taken on as I have a valid qualification. I'm struggling to find a place where I can do it. I rang an adult college 5 minutes ago where I would be paying £400 to do it but even they rejected me as I have a Grade C! Crazy. Is it possible to do it? I'm in London by the way.

Do you not need A Levels for Uni?
Your local college will allow ANYONE to take a GCSE
Look them up and see how much it is to maybe just sit the exam or do a 6 mths course?0 -

I have a BTEC which is equivalent to A Levels. It's only Maths GCSE that is holding me up grades wise.0 -
What about the same course at a different uni? Or is the entry requirements the same across the board?0

Colleges will not allow ANYONE to take a GCSE. They will have entry and funding requirements the same as any other course. Also, if you only sit the exam rather than have the training, a lot of colleges will not allow you to sit the exam there as it will impact on their success rates with a higher likelyhood of a lower grade if you dont have the training associated with the exam. It is a higher risk for them.0 -

Well I want to stay in London and the University I want to attend has an excellent reputation for what I want to do. The other Unis don't really specialise in it in the same way. Therefore this uni appeals to me greatly.
Anyways I just rang Westminster college up regarding a year long evening course. Yet again the information is not very clear in a way. The lady says I should go along next week to enrol but I still get a funny feeling that I'll turn up for them to tell me I can't be taken on as I have a Grade C already.0 -
Oh well they let my friend do it and she has no qualifications in maths. Must have been a fluke there then. She paid something like £400 to do it.saintjammyswine wrote: »Colleges will not allow ANYONE to take a GCSE. They will have entry and funding requirements the same as any other course. My DD had the same dilemma. She paid to do an adult evening course at a local college over a year and sat the exam at the end and got the grade she needed.Spend less now, work less later.0
