If your TomTom is like mine, a TomTom ONE, then it uses what is known as a standard mini-usb cable to charge the device.

This is the same charger as that used on digital cameras and on phones such as Orange C500 phones and Motorola phones.

You can even get items such as this:
    http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/106335
Plug in your USB charger that is given to you though this than through your PC. I assume you got one as this is what is given for you to update your TomTom through your PC.

Amo can you please explain what u mean, I have the same TomTom One,with the USB cable that came with it...... its not a charger just the cable to connect to the PC and update, explain how this can work as a charger?

You say that a Mortorola phone charger would work but the its the wrong size fitting for the Tom Tom so how is this possible?

For the OP you can buy the charger from Argos and Halfords its around £19.99 . I was about to go and buy one too but would like to avoid paying out nearly £20 if possible....

Try the local independant Mobile Phone shop, you can pick up a USB type charger for less than a fiver, ignore the overpriced TomTom ones

I am I getting this correct all I have to do is connect the Tom Tom via the USB cable and it will charge via the PC?
If so I guess I don't even need a charger as my PC is on 24/7 most of the time....:T

The TomTomOne cable that has a USB connection on one end goes into the PC. The other end has a mini-USB connection and goes into the TomTom One. These leads act as chargers although they charge at 1/4 - 1/2 the speed of a mains supply.

It's not worth paying specifically for a branded lead when you can go to places like EBuyer and pick one up cheaply.

If you plug the TomTom into your PC, the green light at the top will come on in much the same way if you charge it from the car of mains adapter.

    Hope that helps! ;)

Skint_Catt and Amo thanks for all that info... I had no idea about charging with the USB lead and was just about to purchase a mains charger from Halfords for £20 so you have saved me a bit this week... I have charged my TomTom and it worked fine....
OH was most impressed as I would of asked him for half of the cost...:rotfl: now I am going to try it with my PSP see if that works also although we already have the charger which OH bought :rotfl:

Thanks again and I hope its helped out the OP too.....
