Assessing telephone interview

Hi,

I had a telephone interview and wanted to know, people can give me an indication on how they think I did based on certain things the interviewer said. Let me just start with this, I think I could of done much better and the perfect answers came into my mind after the interview had finished. So a positive is that I have now experienced a telephone interview and the next time that I do it I will be much better prepared and have answers at the front of my mind.

Cons: On the automated email asking me to choose an appropriate time it said the interview would take around 10-15 mins and was more of a quick discussion about my application. Well my discussion lasted 6.38 mins.

I could more detailed e.g about what I thought the jop would entail and my previous work experience.

Possible pros. OK, now I am clutching at straws 2)I was told that I would receive an email by Thursday telling me if I had progressed onto the next stage. 2) I was asked when I could start, followed by the if you are selected 3) I was asked about my commitments for the next 12 months and whether I had any holidays or anything planned and I was told that they prefer that staff do not take holidays within the first 6 months and not during their busy period.

I know that ain't much to go on, but ideally if anyone knows the process they can give me an opinion or ask me other things that I might not of considered.
Or better still what are the signs that a telephone interview has not been successful and the interviewer already decided during the call that they would not be progression the application to the next stage?

  • As no one here was part of the call we can not say. What I can say is do this on your PC. For next time write some possible questions they could ask you and your asnwers to them so when asked questions like

What are you looking for in your new role? OR Why areyou interested in this job? OR Howwould they describe you at work?
you will have the replies all ready

Also write a list of questions to ask them so when they ask you don't go 'erm......'

As you are not face to face they can not see you are looking at a screen , just dont dont sound like you are reading the news!

That's usually the case in a lot of interviews. Especially with me nerves just tear me to shreds.

You could have said all the right things, in the wrong way. We just don't know.

The best thing to do after any interview is to forget it. You can't change it now.

If you don't get it, ask for constructive feedback.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

depends how the interview started and if they seemed less interested as the call went on.

You really never can tell as you can't see them.

You can ask for feedback if you don't get further and see what they say.

I have had 3 phone interviews - only 1 was then taken to a face to face interview.

I'd say that there is a good sign that your application may not be progressed if your interview only lasted 6 minutes. But I may be wrong.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Hope I'm wrong but agree with above poster. I usually find if they say the interview will take 30 minutes and it takes half of that time, It will usually mean you haven't got the job

It also means nothing from experience if a telephone interview lasts 30 mins.
