OS Discussion Thread

Options
As periodically occurs in the OS daily thread, some members have taken comments personally and felt most unhappy about the BG's announcement that pix predominant posts and one liner posts are not appropriate in the OS daily thread.

Yet others have taken this far more personally and feel affronted that their own particular circumstances may have caused the controversy!

Rather than continue this discussion within the daily thread, I'm beginning a fresh thread so that those who feel aggrieved may have their say, without fear of being flamed, subjected to sarcasm or ridiculed by their opinions and feelings.

For the record, logistically, may I just point out that if someone posts an extraodinary amount of posts in one thread in one day, that it can equate to an avalanche of email notifications that that particular thread has been updated ... even though the updates (sometimes in excess of 10+) means an inbox cluttered with notifications, which can be almost as irritating as being subjected to spam emails, because those update may have little or no relevance to the subject or individual concerned!?

Please try and see things from a broader view!!!

Lets use this space to discuss the pro's and con's of such practises and also acknowledge that the comments (unless made so!) are NOT personal, but general!!

I shall begin ....

... many one liner posts floods my inbox with notifications of the the thread being updated. Often these posts are no more than a personal post, which could be dealth with by a) editing a previous post or b) sendind a PM (that is what PM's are for)

Also, pix for the sake of pix, does make the thread longer, takes more time to read, isn't always pertinent and is better suited to the Arms (which is what the Arms was invented for!)

Finally, my post is not a personal attack upon anyone, merely the observations of someone who hasn't had time to post in a month and has noticed the changes and welcomes the BG's announcement regarding the above.

Do please remember Martin Lewis' mantra (he owns this website ;) ) "be nice to all money savers" :D

Use this thread for any discussion you feel is pertinent! Have a good day, one and all. :D:D:D

Sorry but isn't this just dragging things out? Can't we just move on?

    Hi, Queenie.

Thanks for trying to sort out any bad feeling that happened yesterday. However, from experience I feel that more threads about the same thing tend to build more resentment and unhappiness. Particularly if people who 'feel aggrieved' are encouraged to go over it all again.

I think that if people want to continue to talk about it, it would be best if they did so on yesterday's daily HERE That way it all stays together, there is only one thread about it and we can get on with old styling on the rest of the board.

We had a similar discussion not too long ago and that generated the very sensible starter post by Andrea. There is a new message in the stickies just to hopefully clear up any confusion. I'm not sure that there is any merit in going over this ground again. I fear that continued discussion over an argument often leads to more arguing and more bad feeling.

So I'm going to lock the thread and I apologise if it seems unnecessary however I'm doing so so we can get back to normal and I hope you understand.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
