Any hope for an unripe pumpkin?

Help! Cut open a lovely pumpkin but the flesh is still pale, hard and not very tasty. I've eaten this type of pumpkin (one of the green african varieties) many times before, an it seems to just be under ripe.
Is there any hope it will ripen in the fridge, or just go off? what if I leave it out of the fridge and cover with plastic wrap to keep the bugs off?
Thanks!

It's a shame you have already opened it as it would have ripened eventually, although obviously you couldn't have known it was unripe - It has happened to me before with a squash.
I think the fact it has been cut means it will more likely rot than ripen
