Cheap halal chicken in Sainsbury's

I was in Sainsbury's yesterday evening and noticed in the fresh chicken section three shelves of pre-packed halal chicken thighs, drumsticks etc really cheap. Some of the packs were only £2
Although the town I live in is certainly multicultural, there isn't a big Muslim population so the chicken is being reduced as it was largely untouched.
I'm NOT starting this thread to elicit anti-Islamic responses so please don't post them.
If you're looking for really cheap fresh chicken however, suggest checking your Sainsbury's.

Thanks for that. I didn't know Sainsbury's stocked halal chicken. I must check soon.0

Taste wise there'll be no difference so you're quids in if it's being reduced like that0

My OH insists halal chicken tastes better than ordinary chicken, but I can't really taste any difference. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I bet your OH wouldn't notice either if you did a blind taste test. If you served non-Halal from a Halal packet he/she would swear it tastes better...all in the head half the timeWe have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
We only eat halal meat for religious reasons. We did used to get the big packs of chicken from Mr S and Mr T, and costco do similar as well. Over time though we realised the quality was not great and these were almost certainly battery farmed chickens and also heard that some of the chickens were raised in countries with questionable welfare standards. Ditto for the lamb and mutton as well. From a religious point of view this was a bit dubious to us and when I got food poisoning from such chicken on more than one occasion; despite it being properly cooked I was well put off. So despite it costing more we started buying from our local turkish supermarket who have slightly pricier meat but the difference in quality is vast, the meat is all relatively local and is very fresh not deep frozen previously as some supermarket packaged meat is. Another bonus is they sell quite a few different beef cuts and mince; which most halal ranges in supermarkets and asian butchers don't have (the reason being that in the Indian subcontinent beef isn't traditionally eaten due to it being a no-no for the majority hindu population) xx0

When I was Googling organic meat suppliers I came across this

Lidl were selling a short life halal chicken at 30% off, so she bought it just to try. She thought it tasted better than non halal, and since then occasionally buys halal if its reduced price or is similar priced to non halal. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

There was an interesting piece on Radio 4 the other day about the meaning of "Halal" with regard to foodstuffs. It appears to be being (mis ?) used to cover a very wide range of food stuffs - not just meat products, which is what most non-muslims believe.
I got the impression that some "Halal" meat may not be that ! at least not by some interpretations of the word.0 -
The halal chicken I spotted in Sainsbury's wasn't own brand and had a label in Arabic or Urdu script, alongside the English one describing it as halal.
I've read the Qu'ran in English and I've always assumed halal was for anything OK and haraam for anything forbidden.0
