Cheap halal chicken in Sainsbury's

The halal chicken I spotted in Sainsbury's wasn't own brand and had a label in Arabic or Urdu script, alongside the English one describing it as halal.

I've read the Qu'ran in English and I've always assumed halal was for anything OK and haraam for anything forbidden.
Yes - Halal can refer to any food which is allowed in Islam but is most commonly used for meat - another use would be halal sweets (i.e. Muslim's can't eat certain sweets which contain things like pork gelatine)

One of the Tesco's near here has been selling Halal chicken similar to what you have described as well as other Halal products (but none of the other Tesco's nearby have any Halal products)

One of the Asda's near work is the same aswell (but none of the other Asda's around here have any)

I've never seen any in Lidl here either - so in general I think we can assume that pretty much all the main supermarkets do sell it but only in certain stores.

    ---

(There was also some stories in the past about some supermarkets selling Halal meat but not labelling it as such which led to a lot of complaints from people saying they didn't want to eat Halal meat - it isn't really nice for Muslims either as this is then potentially something that they could have bought but were unaware that it was Halal)

Edit: the chicken in Tesco had country of origin: Brazil
    The one in Asda: France
