Laptop

I've had my current laptop for more than 4 years and it's falling apart (admittedly it wasn't an expensive one..) but I now want to invest in one with quite good capabilities and one which will last me relatively long. I don't mind spending some money but with the aim of not spending again for a laptop for a while...
I need to use it for email/internet and gaming (mostly The Sims). Any advice on where would be best to buy it from/which laptop would you recommend?

How much do you plan to spend?
I suggest no less than £450

I had a HP Compaq for a similar price with a similar spec from Tesco, it had to go in for repair within 7 months and they replaced the entire insides of the machine (probably would have been easier to give a new machine, but they would have had to start a new warranty then) only for 6 months later the harddrive to die. The battery also had to be replaced at around 12 months it was completely dead and wouldn't hold a charge. Would not recommend.:hello:0 -
4 years is pretty much as long as any laptop is going to effectively last. If you get a cheap one it will stop working after 4 years, if you buy an expensive, highly spec'ed one it will be out of date in 4 years. All you can ever really do is buy a laptop that is going to meet your requirements for the next three to four years. If you try and buy beyond that you will need a crystal ball and a substantial budget.0

Thank you everyone! I've not decided yet as right now if I buy it, I will end up spending all my savings... but I guess I'll really have to. So just need to make the right choice...London Fashion Week tickets, Clinique Facial treatment set (I see it as a win :P) Mario Power Tennis Wii game, Aura by Swaroski perfume, Theatre Tickets to 'A woman alone' :T, £1000 with Kerrang's Scream4Cash, Links of London Wedding Themed Bracelet, Chipmunk O2 launch party tickets, Adidas All In gig tickets, Water For Elephants Double Bill tix0
