Help
Im really worried. I done something at work cause i thought i was doing the best thing and kinda panicked, but now i think im gonna get fired for it.
I manage a store thats been going through a rough patch, but things have been going well. Then over the weekend , £100 went missing from bankings. I honestly thought it was a genuine mistake, ie. it fell out somewhere or something, and to stop it going further put the money in myself even though i really couldnt afford it. Anyway, turns out the girl who done the money at the ned of the night wrote down the cc figures wrong, and it did all add up. Now it was £100 over banked so i had to own up. My DM went mad and i think is gonna fire me.
I just didnt want the atmosphere in the store to go bad again and thought i was doing what was best. Now im so worried im gonn alose my job i really cant afford to.

I would ask your Manager if you could see him/her for a private word. Explain to them that whilst you only had the best of intentions at heart you realise that it was a foolish error to alter the bankings.
If it was to happen at our company I would say that it would be classed as a disciplinary offence for altering figures. Whilst you did it to try to prevent further 'bad feelings' you may have also covered up what could have been a problem with another member of staff. On this occasion it was a simple calculation error.
This is only my personal opinion but I wouldn't class this a sackable offence but I would want to make you aware that should this have been someone 'borrowing' from the takings then when would you have stopped putting the money back in the till for them.
Please do ask to see you Manager though and explain that you were just thinking about the store.
Good luckHappy riding on two or three"We're not complete idiots, we do have some parts missing!" :doh:0 -
I agree with T&B - you might well get a written warning under the disciplinary procedure but not the sack for a "first offence".

I find it hard to see that any company can sack anyone who didn't falsify banking figures, as others seem to have said, but merely donated £100 of their own money because the cash amount seemed to be £100 short.
This is not dishonesty - it's extreme honesty by a manager who doesn't want his branch to show a banking shortfall.
If you are dismissed for this reason I can't see any employment tribunal considering it's fair, either.
Definitely speak to the senior manager and explain the circumstances.0 -
Hiya
Thank you for that, it will hopefully help me to sleep better. I spoke to my senior earlier and all she had to say what i dont know what to say and will get back to you later but she didnt hence the upset.
If i had genuinly thought anyone had stolen it i would have left it, but i i knew it had to be a mistake somewhere which is why i put it in. Im so worried about tomorrow, but if they do sack me i will go to CAB. I hope they see it that it was a mistake to make but will let me learn from it and carry on.£2 Savers club £0/£150

I was in no way insinuating that lindsaygalaxy had acted dishonestly, infact I am sure that she did have the very best of intentions, I was just concerned that had this been a case of another member of staff 'borrowing' from the company then this wouldn't have shown up.
I think that what lindsaygalaxy did showed amazing loyalty to the company, I am certain that very few other people would do this had they found themselves in the same situation.
I do say that a company who dismisses an employee for putting their own money in the till when it appears to be short needs taking to tribunal as I am sure any chairperson would throw the book at them.Happy riding on two or three"We're not complete idiots, we do have some parts missing!" :doh:0 -

I don't think anyone did suggest that the OP had been dishonest. If they had been that would be a sackable offence and we were saying we didn't think they would be sacked.
Lindsay - all the best for tomorrow. Sleep well.0
