Dell Computer 'death'

I bought a Dell computer from PC World 13 months ago and now there is no power (a local pc repairer said it looks like it's died). This is a month after the manufacturers warrenty has run out.
I don't think that this product has lasted a 'reasonable length of time' - should I take it back to the shop and demand a repair/replacement/cash back? What are my rights (original cost £600)

Go onto the Dell website.
For the Lazy
Enter in the service tag and see what it says. If it still has days left then great, contact dell who will sort it, otherwise read the stickies at the top.
Also to clarify, even if you take it back to the shop where it was purchased from they will check when it was purchased and if over a year and outside any service arrangement, will advise that in store they can send it away for a fault and fix, but it's chargeable.
If you want to go down the SoGA (read the stickies) call 0844 561 1234 option 3 option 3 I believe and set out what you would like. They can ask that you prove the fault was inheriant, and not as a result of say a power surge.
It does just sound like the PSU is dead, so a power surge can cause these and would not be covered under the SoGA, but your local repair shop should of said, it takes 2 minutes to take the case off, plug the PSU into a tester and say yes/no if it's a easy fix.0 -
a local pc repairer said it looks like it's died
To be honest, that diagnosis is the sort of wording my 80 year old mother would say and it's not the sort of thing I would expect from a professional PC repairer.
A visit to a different place may be in order.0 -
The point is that the machine is not working; it has not been damaged or had any unauthorised downloaded software. Do I have any legal rights to complain or is the manufacturer's 12 month warrenty the end of the story?0

Did you even read the READ ME FIRST like I said.0

Of course you do.Do I have any legal rights to complain...
You might like to read MSE's How to Complain guide first....or is the manufacturer's 12 month warrenty the end of the story?
MSE's Consumer Rights article will help on that point.0 -
