Can't Afford Car?? Help
Comments

I don't know much about cars, but I think a chip is only a problem for the MOT if its in the drivers line of vision (but I could be wrong), if your insurance is fully comp they usually repair chips for free with damage to the NCD. Otherwise shop around, you can find vast differences in prices of things.
So you still got £200 x 36 months left to pay on car? £7,200, doesn't sound like a "banger" to me:eek: at least not a banger price:eek: .
You gotta keep it till you paid it off, otherwise you loose too much money changing every year. The FIL being a mechanic is a godsend, can't you get cheap parts from scrapyards, trade prices, ebay ECT.
I know things seem hard now, but things will get easier & you will look back on the hard times when the kids were young & needed lots (& wife couldn't do many hours) & remember it fondly.
Keep your chin up & try not to get bogged down with it all.
Good luck with the soon to be new addition:D , you remember whats real & important and everything else will work itself out. Try not to argue over money (so easy to, so hard not too), but it doesn't get you anywhere, you know that.0 -

I was just thinking that - you planned to spend over £250 on a 11 yr old pc!
Have you heard of Dell?0 -
I think he means the PC he has now is a pentium 1 and is 11 years old. Not the one he was going to get.
Try your local Freecycle mate. Someone on there will have an oldish PC.0 -

Mine passed it's mot with a small chip on the windscreen, I think it probably is to do with the line of vision.
I've got a banger
small engine size so it's cheaper on the Road Tax and when it needs parts I used to get them from scrapyards or ebay (Unless it's something that REALLY needs to be new) as it's so much cheaper than buying from a garage/car shop, but if you have space around your house (and time and if the FIL can help) maybe you could see if you can get an old second hand one for nothing (a spares or repair on freecycle or local paper) I found the same make of mine for nothing, just had to get it towed myself and the engine and workings, windows etc were sound, the body was just rotten.
My dad and boyfriend are the car geniuses so they stripped it down of all possible useable parts to put into storage and the items I couldn't use and couldn't store (door cards seats etc) were put on ebay so I got some money back. It all depends on the age and make of your car though (mine's an old ford) and how much time and space. But it's saved me a fortune over the 3 years I've had the car. It was bought for £300 as it was going to be too expensive for the woman to get the garage to fix it for it to go through an mot and on top of that over the 3 years I've probably spent around £250 on it not including insurance and petrol.
It doesn't look too pretty but it does the job and fingers crossed it's going to do me another year!
With computers you can get great deals ordering online and over the phone, a lot better than if you go into a shop, and you don't get lots of silly uneccesary extras forced on you.
Good luck with the new baby and I hope you get things sorted out soon

£600 behind, its £200 a month with 3 years left to pay. As for MOT her father is a mechanic so he does all the work for nothing, we get parts which we can't afford, its up for MOT in June, it has a chip in the windscreen so thats snookering us for a start. What sort of banger are you buying? We pay £180 per month for 04 mid range renault. Have you seen the finance agreement at all, would he be trying to fleece you of some extra cash? It just sounds way too much
She getting all the benefits she can get, she could work more hours but then she losses tax credit and we have child minders to pay, 6 or 1 half a dozen of the other. Have you looked in to seeing if your wtc would go upp if she stayed at home rather than worked
A car may be more important than a PC but when I already pay all the bills (Including her debt) she could keep her part of the deal, but if I mention it, it ends in a fight so no point,
I've not treated myself to so much as a small chip from the chippy in3 months, everyone needs a some form of a treat now and again, (Hell this PC is a Pentium 1 over 11 years old) Again i think you are being fleeced if you are willing to pay more than £25 let alone £200+ for an 11year old comp
Hope you get it sorted0 -
To clear it up, its an 11 year old PC I have at the min.
And as someone mentioned above yes I would be better on the dole financially as I've been on it a few years back and we were better of. But mentally I need to work, I got depression lying at home all day. Sad state of affairs this countries in when some are better of on the dole.0 -
what a shame, but you need the car more than you need the pc.
Can't you get your employer to give you some training to get you off the NMW?
Or find a better paying job?
Sorry if this is harsh, but you shouldn't be slaving for this amount - thats the problem not the car.
You write well, I am sure you'd get through a training course in record time with no problems0
