heated towel rail for bathroom

Options
Hi
Just wondering if you guys could recommend a supplier for a chrome (effect) heated towel rail for my bathroom?
only issue I have is that it can be max 300mm wide. B&Q etc start at 400mm.
I have had a quick look online, but a lot of companies are only quoting mainland UK delivery.
Budget is £100
Thanks in advance

First of all make sure you are looking at correct item. Some of the towel rails are simply that - to heat your towel. If you want one which doubles up as a radiator giving out enough heat to heat the room they are pricier.

this one is £32 but not enough heat output to heat the room

This one is £99 but is a higher heat output (BTU)

Yes, i would agree, I had to get ours taken out, as it was just a towel warmer. I have one in, the garage, but god knows whereabouts it is and don't know the measurements. But be careful when buying.....

For general reference, B&Q etc. are generally awful for this kind of thing. You should try the likes of Jebbs (Peter's Hill, Belfast) who are not only cheaper but actually use high quality suppliers.
    Always overestimating...

We got our bathroom refitted last year and got all our stuff (including towel radiator!) from Fawcett & Co, Falcon Way, Boucher Rd (it was through our plumbers recomendation)

Found them very helpful and resonably priced.

Can't find a website for them though.
  • My mum ordered a complete new bathroom a few weeks ago, the company are actually coming tomorrow morning to start the work.
I only discovered at 5pm this evening that she has ordered a heated towel rail ( ''because it looked nice in the show room'') instead of a radiator.
Having had a quick chat with the sales man -just as the shop was closing -I've established that the BTU of the towel rail is about 1100 but having done a few online calculations,I dont this is enough to actually heat the room which is approx 7 feet square.

The plumber is due to start work on the plumbing first thing in the morning.

She really needs heat in this room so my questions are..

    1) What BTU should we be looking at to give out some decent heat ?? ( I've worked out she needs between 2000 and 2275)

    2) Where would be the best place to buy a normal radiator 'off the shelf' within a few miles of Boucher Road Belfast ?

    Joy,

Your setup sounds like what we used to have. Bathroom was about 2 x 3 m (small!) with towel rail and it didn't heat the bathroom. Changed it for a Myson radiator in the winter of 2010 and its so much better.

    1) Depends on the room characteristics (wall construction, insulation, north facing wall and size of room). Clearly the larger the BTU's the quicker the room will heat but boiler has a maximum rating it can supply.

    2) We got a Myson HE DC http://www.myson.co.uk/products/radiators.asp (double convector - thats two panels with 2 sets of fins inbetween them) as this encourages heat transfer to the air. I would suggest that a DC would be best as it's only slightly fatter than a DP (double panel - which has no fins). Shop wise, B&Q, Spenlove C Jebbs, Beggs and Partners might be goers, but unknown if the latter 2 are trade only.
    Regards, Robin.
