Sorry, Just have to vent it somewhere...........
I was in the bank this afternoon putting some money in as we are saving for a holiday (first one in 6 years!!) Anyway not long ago I be came debt free :T , thanks to a surprise cheque from being mis-sold our endowment policy and hard work!!
So I'm in there feeling very smug being able to put cash in there. The woman behind the counter is chatting away and says that she notices that I have a large overdraft that I "could" use,
so I'm like "oh yes I must get that closed down as I don't need it anymore".
And she says "is there any point?"
Me "excuse me??"
Her "I've see it time and time again people like you closing down overdrafts and then in a few weeks you will be begging for it back"
I was so cross that I just walked out.....didn't get her name.
Nothing I can do about it but I have been feeling really pleased with myself for weeks but afterwards I began to doubt myself and think maybe I should keep it open. Which I know is stupid to think that (even as I am typing it)
Sorry just had to vent where I am understood!!!

That is really harsh.
And what did she mean People Like You. I would have gone through that window at her. Lol.
Stereotyping people who have large overdrafts is ridiculous.

Thats quite odd. I have just reduced mine from £800 to £200. They were absolutly fine about it.
(I don;t need the £200 but am afraid if I accidentally go overdrawn, lol!)
Perhaps go in again when you have calmed down & just go to the help desk & ask to shut your OD down. They will take your account number & signature & then when a accounts manager is around it will be closed.
Her attitude was bad though. Customer services are going down the pan big style aren't they.
Well done on getting rid of your debt!

What about switching your account to a different bank - although I'm sure most banks just want to keep us in debt and then forever in their pocket. Although thats just my opinion I'm sure others will completely disagree!I stopped smoking 25th June 2007STILL Never complacent but confidentMy debt is GOING DOWN!!!!0

Just as well she never saw my overdraft facility. I have one available for 10,500 pounds stg.0

Personally I would make a complaint about her but that's just me, there was absolutely no reason for her to speak to you like that!
Then...change banks!0 -
Dear me, you do all like moaning.
What I'm sure the assistant meant was that she sees, all the time, people who reduce their overdraft facility and THEN complain about being charged for having their transactions bounced because they inadvertently go overdrawn again.
Having an authorised overdraft limit doesn't mean you have to use it. It's just there in case.
And "people like you" just means "people who've paid off their overdraft and then think they won't need it again". That's not judgemental, it's an observation of what doubtless happens time and time again.0
