What's wrong with that? If it came to £23.19 and the customer gave you 2 x £20 notes then says 'oh hang on I have the 19p' it's easy. £7 change.

Everyone who works on a till should be able to do that.
Really? Why does that always happen:D.
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

    What? Pocket an extra tenner?

    Epic fail :rotfl:

Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

In my last job the training was pretty much non existant. you was supposed to learn whilst doing it. Everything i knew in that job i picked up by watching the more experienced workers and just having a go.

I've changed departments now and am currently training to become a home shop colleague/ van driver and my training has been out on the job from day 1 just watching and learning and having a go.

I usually find that if i get in a muddle and explain to the customer that i am new to it and still training then they become much more patient and understanding.

Not sure what you expect here?

Everyone has to start somewhere and no one will expect you to be at the speed of your more experienced colleagues. I used to work on one of the basic ones where you had to key everything in, no barcode scanner or anything, no computerised system at all. Yes, it was confusing at first but it soon becomes second nature and I've got maths dyslexia (dyscalculia) and didn't find it too hard.

If you're worried about people having to wait, just apologise and tell them you're new and still learning. Most people will appreciate being told and will be sympathetic to you working a little slower.

There are always going to be 'new' things cropping up on a till, IMO, but it's how you deal with them that matters. For example, when I hand over luncheon vouchers in a supermarket, some till workers have never heard of them and don't know if the store accepts them, and if they do whether they're a voucher or a coupon. I just smile and say "you have taken them before, do you want to check?" and wait for someone to confirm it's OK. Hopefully next time you'll remember.

OP I am not sure what you expect regarding training, do you expect every company to have a till out the back and fake customers?

Actually, that's what used to happen when I worked in retail as a student many moons ago. We used to do about half a day's till training before we were let loose on the customers.
